The head of the
department
The department was
established in 1997 with the aim to prepare bachelors in Philology.
It prepares Bachelors in Philology and Masters in Applied
Linguistics. The head of the department is Andreychuk N.I., C.Sc
(Ph), associate professor.
In today’s
global village one is lost without knowledge of foreign
languages and computers. Therefore Applied Linguistics
department offers a wide range of university and job-related
courses which aim is to support student
mobility.
Our department has
developed into a respected research centre with first-class
academic staff. It brings a new dimension to the technically
oriented tradition of the university, and continues the innovative
approach to education and research which is evident throughout
ICSIT. Many of the subjects taught in Applied Linguistics play an
important role in the Computer Science and Engineering programmes.
With a wide range of subjects available, many programmes include
the opportunity to undertake work placements, study exchanges or
research projects. A high percentage of these are on an
international basis, since internationally- renowned ICSIT staff
have established a number of research and studies exchanges with
institutions within Europe and worldwide.
Such a combination
of studying languages (English and German) and common linguistic
disciplines with computer science studying gives an opportunity to
prepare specialists for phonetic, grammatical, semantic structure
description and modeling of all text types. Alumni of this
department can also develop dictionaries, work out new methods of
English and information science teaching. They get diplomas in
Computer science and translation (English and second
foreign language for choice).
